A Change of Habits

I have put on weight since starting on my current job about 18 months ago.

It's quite shocking really and I have a few dresses that I can't wear anymore.

That's really saying something because I'm not someone who buys tightly fitted clothes. My dresses are well fitting but usually not tight.

And most of them I bought less than 18 months ago!

So... I really do have to go on a diet because I still want to wear some of those clothes! But I usually suck at diets. I love eating too much... *sheepish smile

For this diet to work, I think I have to be realistic and change my habits rather than just do things differently for a couple of weeks.

So these are just a few things I will be doing from now onwards:

1) Drink a glass of water or eat a fruit before lunch and dinner
2) Climb the steps on my way to work in the subway instead of taking the elevators
3) Stretch when watching TV
4) Cut down on all sweet drinks
5) Eat a lot less carbs (I'm so inspired by Ting and Petunia - I don't think I can do without carbs, but I'm trying to only take brown rice and wholemeal bread)

Hopefully these small steps help! I'd be updating all again with my progress...

  1. I'm really such a carb person too. I've really cut down on carbs and I can see the result. While I don't miss rice and noodles, I do miss eating cakes and bread.

The good thing about this change is now I am more conscious about what I eat. I think before I eat, so that itself helps me cut out alot of junk and convenience food.

  2. Thanks Ting! I'd try... I find it very hard to go no carb when eating out so complex carbs are my options, guess.. How do you do it when you eat out? I love cakes and breads too.. especially cakes!

  3. I am a carb person too...I go weak at the knees without carbs...hopefully I don't need to go on a diet anytime soon. Reward yourself occasionally. I hear people binge when they stay away from their favourite food for a long time.

  4. I ate some carbs while in Siem Reap though I ate mainly omelette, glass noodles and vegetable rolls.

Back here, I ate steak and (some) ice cream at the restaurant.

We don't have to deny ourselves, just eat less carbs. I mean I used to eat rice, cake and bread everyday, now I hardly touch that stuff.

  7. Hi Ting, I havent taken the plunge to pull out carbs completely.. what I have done is reduce carbs and only take complex ones like brown rice and wholemeal bread. Next week, I'd reduce even more and then more the following week. I'm more careful with what I eat and that makes me feel good! :)

  9. I was very disciplined about food until I arrived at Sinfonia's table. Sinfonia's cooking murdered my diet. I think if I stayed any longer, I would be as fat as Miss Mao!!
